But the shafts were a half inch longer across the set, and the lofts were a whole club stronger basically. There was a lot of hype about how long they were.

Once they get something they believe is better than what they've got, then they'll worry about how to paint it.Īctually, I do remember the review on the S3 irons I think it was. The R&D guys always talk about performance first. Unfortunately I think some get caught up in the color (the PUMA side of things a bit more than they probably should). Look back through our reviews and you'll see that Cobra's stuff consistently performs at or near the top.even when we do our head to head stuff. This one showed up on my porch with a note that read, "Jose made it happen".

So with all of that background out of the way, here are a few pics of one of the first, of what I expect will be many, Blue Cobra AMP Cell Pro Drivers that will find their way into the wild. Apparently enough of us demanded Cobra supply it. I suppose you can chalk it up to demand and supply. Now I can't say for sure what ultimately led to the decision to reverse course and make red and blue heads available through custom (I'd like to think my occasional reminders that "blue needs to happen" was the tipping point), but whatever the reason, Cobra has decided to allow anyone who wants an AMP Cell Pro in blue or red to special order one (orange and silver will be available off the rack). Cobra might have to rethink the no blue and red in the Pro model.

After that, it was just a matter of supply and demand.ĭuring a series of round table discussions it became abundantly clear that Red and Blue were actually the most popular colors among those in attendance. The team at Cobra had come to the conclusion that silver and orange would be the two most popular colors. During a demo days session on day 2 of the 3 day event I found out that Cobra would only be offering the Pro version (smaller, lower spin, etc.) in Orange and Silver. Just a few short weeks later I found myself attending an Open House at Cobra's Carlsbad headquarters. I continued smirking right up until the first time I lined it up behind a golf ball. I'm not sure why I thought blue was more ridiculous than red or orange (or white, or silver), but I did. Now all be the first to admit that I smirked a little when I first saw the blue head. Cobra had already done the red thing (ZL), and the silver thing (AMP), and even the orange thing (Special Edition AMP Orange), but the blue head was new. What is also unique about Cobra's new drivers is that they're going to be offered in 4 different colors, and all 4 colors (Orange, Silver, Blue, and Red) will be stocked at retail. Cobra called the new adjustability system 'MyFly'.

It was the first driver announced that offers all lofts in one head. Back in September Cobra sent us samples of their (still) upcoming AMP Cell Driver.
